Exhibition in Berlin Documents ISIS Atrocities Against Yazidis in Shingal

A powerful exhibition titled, “Rojda – In Light of Memory,” is currently on display in Berlin, documenting the 2014 ISIS attack on the Yazidi heartland of Shingal (Sinjar), Rudaw reported. Running through May 5, it features photos, personal belongings, and testimonies showcasing the community’s life before and after the genocide. Organizer Walid Tozo stressed its importance in highlighting ISIS’s brutality, urging reflection on the future rather than prolonged grief.
The exhibition also celebrates Yazidi resilience and culture, aiming to create an archival record through multimedia.
ISIS’s 2014 assault led to the abduction of 6,417 Yazidis, with many enslaved or killed. Though territorially defeated, ISIS remains a regional threat. The UN recognizes the campaign as genocide, with 200,000 Yazidis displaced and 2,590 still missing, per KRG-affiliated data.
