German Chancellor Candidate Advocates for Deporting Criminal Refugees to Afghanistan, Syria
Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and candidate for Chancellor of Germany, has proposed significant changes to the country’s immigration and asylum policies, Khaama Press reported yesterday.
In a recent interview, he emphasized the need to prioritize the deportation of criminal refugees to Syria and Afghanistan, despite the ongoing instability in these regions.
Merz stated, “We know that Syria and Afghanistan remain highly unstable. However, we believe that deportations to these countries are fundamentally possible and necessary.” His remarks underline a strong commitment to addressing immigration challenges.
Currently, around 975,000 Syrians reside in Germany, many of whom arrived during the Syrian civil war. Merz advocates for reforms that would differentiate between asylum seekers and labor migrants, proposing the establishment of a digital agency called “Work and Residency” to streamline labor migration processes.
The CDU leader’s stance reflects growing concerns about the social and economic impact of high refugee numbers on Germany’s infrastructure. As the debate over asylum policies intensifies, Merz’s proposals aim to create a more controlled immigration system while balancing humanitarian considerations for those fleeing conflict and persecution.
