Germany Intensifies Border Controls to Curb Migration and Combat Islamic Extremism
The German government has announced plans to implement stricter controls across its land borders. Berlin described this move as an effort to combat illegal immigration and protect citizens from threats such as Islamic extremism.
On Monday, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the controls will begin on September 16 and will initially last for six months.
It is noteworthy that these restrictions are part of a broader set of measures Germany has adopted in recent years to tighten its stance on illegal immigration, particularly in response to an increase in migrants, especially those fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East.
Migration experts indicate that opposition to immigration in Germany has risen since the country accepted over one million people, primarily from war-torn countries like Syria, during the 2015-2016 migrant crisis.
