Frankfurt to become first German city to celebrate Ramadan

The city of Frankfurt in Germany plans to spread a message of peace and unity during the holy month of Ramadan by adorning a central high street with half-moons, stars, and other decorations for the first time, DW news agency reported.

Grosse Bockenheimer Strasse in Frankfurt will be adorned with a prominent sign that says “Happy Ramadan!” and other festive illuminations.

According to city mayor Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, such messages are particularly important during times of war and crisis, serving against prejudice, discrimination, and anti-Muslim racism.

Frankfurt is also one of Germany’s most proudly multicultural cities, with Muslims making up around 15% of the population.
