Denmark’s Minister of Immigration and Integration, Rasmus Stoklund, has announced the review of a plan to ban the broadcasting of the Adhan (the Muslim call to prayer) from mosque minarets.

As reported by the Shia Waves Agency, citing The Guardian, Stoklund described the sound of the Adhan as “annoying” and asserted that “Denmark must never come to resemble the Middle East.”

The Minister stated the move’s goal is to prevent the country’s “Islamization.” He has instructed executive bodies to investigate the legal status of the Adhan and examine the experiences of other European countries to draft potential restrictions or a complete ban.

These remarks have drawn strong negative reactions from religious groups and advocates of religious freedom.
