Denmark’s government announced plans to introduce a law prohibiting children under the age of 15 from using social media, aiming to protect young people from potential psychological and social harms associated with excessive digital engagement.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen revealed the proposal during the opening of the new parliamentary session, stating that several social media platforms will be restricted for minors, though specific platforms were not named.

Frederiksen emphasized that while social media plays a central role in youths’ daily lives, it can also contribute to stress, addiction, and mental health challenges, prompting the need for regulation.

The initiative aligns with a broader international trend to oversee children’s online activities, following similar legislation recently passed in Australia targeting underage social media users.
