An annual report on the situation of Muslims in Europe has warned of a sharp rise in Islamophobia, expanded security surveillance, and growing social pressure against Muslim communities.

Researchers say the trend has become increasingly embedded in the political and media structures of some European countries.

Amid rising social and political tensions in parts of Europe, recent reports indicate that Muslims, particularly women wearing the hijab, are facing higher levels of discrimination, hate speech, and security monitoring.

According to Euronews, the annual report “Islamophobia in Europe 2025,” published by a Brussels-based research institution, examined the situation of Muslims in 11 European countries, including Britain, France, Denmark, Sweden, and Austria.

The report stressed that Islamophobia is no longer limited to street attacks, but has become part of Europe’s political, media, and security environment.

According to the report, at least 876 Islamophobic incidents were recorded in 2025, including insults, discrimination, incitement to hatred, and physical attacks. Muslim women made up around 80 percent of the victims, with many cases linked to the hijab.
