Volunteers Clean Shores of Lake Geneva Amid Rising Plastic Waste Concerns
—————————————
Volunteers have undertaken a significant cleanup effort along the shores of Lake Geneva, organized by the Green Earth Action Foundation, Anadolu Agency reported. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution, collect waste, and encourage local community action against environmental risks.

According to Baptistelle Paldino, head of the foundation’s Geneva office, approximately 100 tons of plastic waste, including harmful microplastics, flow into Lake Geneva each year, despite daily cleanup operations by the city.

The collected plastic waste from this cleanup will be transformed into an art installation by Canadian artist Benjamin Von Wong. This installation is slated for display at the UN Geneva Office during the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC-5.2) talks, intending to visually confront delegates negotiating a global treaty on plastic pollution.

In addition to the cleanup, the foundation distributed reusable water bottles and cups to promote sustainable habits, emphasizing the critical need for recycling and reducing plastic consumption.
