Tech Firm Layoffs Decline by 42% in 2024

Layoffs in the technology sector decreased significantly in 2024, with approximately 152,000 workers laid off, a 42% reduction from the previous year, according to data from Layoffs.fyi compiled by Anadolu Agency.

In total, 549 tech firms worldwide implemented job cuts this year, compared to 1,193 firms laying off 264,000 employees in 2023.

As of January 2025, layoffs continued, with 13 tech companies dismissing 1,390 workers so far this month. This figure is notably lower than January 2023, when 90,000 workers were laid off, and January 2024, which saw 34,000 job cuts.

Among the firms announcing layoffs is Meta, which plans to reduce its workforce by about 5%. This move coincides with the end of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and fact-checking initiatives in the U.S. The timeline for these changes remains unclear.
