22 Million Hectares of Forest Devastated by Fires in Brazil

A recent report from monitoring network MapBiomas reveals that Brazil has suffered significant forest devastation, with 22.38 million hectares affected by fires in the first nine months of 2024, Xinhua reported yesterday.

September alone accounted for 10.65 million hectares lost. The northern states of Mato Grosso, Para, and Tocantins have experienced the most severe impacts.

The Amazon region is particularly hard-hit, with 11.3 million hectares burned, highlighting the ongoing environmental crisis.
