Flooding and landslides in south-central Vietnam have claimed at least 90 lives, with 12 people still missing, The Guardian reported. Torrential rains since late October have battered popular tourist areas and key coffee-growing regions, with some areas recording over 1,900mm of rainfall in a week.

Dak Lak province, a mountainous central region, has suffered the most, with more than 60 fatalities and tens of thousands of homes inundated. Rescue teams, including the army and police, have used boats to evacuate residents and deliver food and water to isolated communities, including flooded hospitals in Binh Dinh province.

The Ba and Cai rivers have surged to record levels, surpassing previous highs, while over 235,000 homes have been affected and nearly 80,000 hectares of crops damaged. The government estimates economic losses at approximately $341 million. Extreme weather has caused 279 deaths or missing persons and over $2 billion in damages nationwide this year, with climate change increasingly linked to the frequency and severity of such events.
