Tajikistan Considers Restricting Social Media Access for Children
————————————
Tajikistan is moving towards new legislation that would place limits on children’s access to social media. A representative has proposed a ban on social media use for children under the age of 14. Additionally, the plan would require written parental consent for adolescents between the ages of 14 and 17.

According to Radio Free Europe, the initiative is being promoted with the aim of protecting children from inappropriate online content. However, human rights activists and civil society groups view the proposal as a potential threat to freedom of expression and access to information.

While proponents of the plan emphasize the necessity of ensuring online safety for minors, the proposal is still under review and discussion. A final decision from the relevant authorities is pending.
