Singapore’s PAP Extends 60-Year Rule with Landslide Election Victory

Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) won its 14th consecutive election, securing 87 of 97 parliamentary seats and 65.57% of the vote—a significant increase from 61.24% in 2020, Anadolu Agency reported.
The opposition Workers’ Party retained 10 seats, while other parties failed to win any. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, leading his first election since taking office in 2023, called the result a mandate for “trust and stability.”
Voter turnout hit 92.47%, with 2.4 million ballots cast.
It should be mentioned that Islam constitutes the third largest religion in Singapore, with Muslims accounting for approximately 15.6% of the population, as indicated by the 2020. Muslims, who are free to practice their religion in the rapidly-modernized country, had a fair participation in the election. During his campaign, the sitting PM issued a warning statement, reinforces Singapore’s secular stance and urging Muslims to prioritize national unity over religious identity politics.
