Manila Hosts 2025 Global Halal Conference to Boost Trade and Food Security
………….
Manila, the Philippines, successfully hosted the 2025 International Halal Conference and the second World Halal Food Council (WHFC) Forum on October 28–29, drawing experts, officials, and industry stakeholders from across the globe. The event, organized by the Philippine Halal Development Foundation, focused on advancing halal science and technology while promoting food security and consumer confidence.
Held under the theme “Advancing Halal Science and Technology for Food Security and Consumer Satisfaction,” the conference featured discussions, lectures, and panels aimed at sharing expertise and developing strategies to enhance halal production chains and facilitate international trade. The forum also emphasized standardization and mutual recognition of halal certification, a key step in expanding companies’ presence in global markets.
Major international organizations responsible for accrediting halal products participated, reflecting efforts to unify standards and strengthen consumer trust. The Philippines’ hosting of the event highlighted its ongoing strategy to develop the local halal sector and attract Muslim tourists. Recent initiatives include improving halal food services, upgrading facilities for visitors at airports and tourist sites, and providing women-only areas at Boracay Beach.
Muslims represent roughly 10 percent of the country’s 120 million population, and the Philippines was recognized last year as an emerging Muslim-friendly destination. Organizers said the conference reinforced Manila’s role as a growing Asian hub for the halal industry and promoted stronger international partnerships to support global food security.
