Heavy Monsoon Rains Trigger Deadly Landslides in West Nepal, Killing 9, Including 3 Kids

At least nine people, including three children, were killed after heavy monsoon rains caused destructive landslides in western Nepal on Saturday, VOA reported.

Five members of a family were tragically killed when their house was washed away by a landslide in Malika village, Gulmi district. In neighboring Syangja district, a woman and her 3-year-old daughter also lost their lives in a landslide. Two more people were killed in a separate incident in Baglung district.

The National Disaster Rescue and Reduction Management Authority reported that at least 35 people across Nepal have died due to landslides, floods and lightning strikes since the monsoon season began in mid-June.

Landslides and flash floods are common hazards during the annual monsoon rains in the mountainous country.
