Malaysia Pioneers Fully Digital Halal Certification to Boost Global Trade

Malaysia has launched a groundbreaking digital halal certification system, positioning itself as a leader in the rapidly expanding global halal market, The Halal Times reported. The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) unveiled the MYeHALAL platform on May 5, replacing paper-based processes with a streamlined digital solution. The move slashes certification approval times from 51 to 30 days, enabling businesses to bring halal products to market faster.
The system generates secure digital certificates (e-Certs) recognized in over 80 countries, enhancing trust for Malaysia’s $10 billion halal export industry. While e-Certs are now standard, JAKIM accommodates traditional needs by offering printed certificates for a fee. Small businesses benefit from subsidized fees starting at RM100 ($22) and free training programs to ease the digital transition.
This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s MADANI modernization agenda, leveraging technology to strengthen its reputation as a global halal hub. With the $3 trillion halal market projected to grow, JAKIM’s innovation sets a benchmark for efficiency and transparency. The digital shift is expected to inspire similar reforms worldwide, reinforcing Malaysia’s role in shaping the future of Islamic commerce.
