Malaysia to Construct School, Hospital, and Mosque in Gaza, Says Prime Minister Anwar
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Wednesday that Kuala Lumpur plans to build a school, hospital, and mosque in Gaza, which has suffered extensive destruction due to Israel’s military actions since October 2023, Anadolu Agency reported.
This announcement coincides with the ongoing ceasefire in the region, now in its second week since January 19. “The declaration of a ceasefire in Gaza, following a brutal conflict that has resulted in over 46,000 deaths and displaced more than two million Palestinians, should be accompanied by a recovery plan for Gaza,” Anwar stated on X. “Malaysia will mobilize efforts to construct a school, hospital, and mosque to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people,” he added.
The ceasefire, effective January 19, has halted Israel’s military campaign, which has claimed more than 47,300 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, and injured over 111,000 since October 7, 2023. The conflict has left more than 11,000 individuals missing and has triggered a humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting the elderly and children in what is considered one of the worst humanitarian disasters globally.
In a similar development, the Indonesian Mosque Council has announced plans to build 100 mosques in the Gaza Strip in occupied Palestine. The plans, said former Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, have been prepared in response to the urgent need of the people of Gaza, especially with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan.
