Jordan Bans Muslim Brotherhood, Declares Group Illegal

Jordan’s Interior Ministry has formally dissolved the Muslim Brotherhood, declaring all its activities illegal in a sweeping move to “safeguard national security,” Arab News reported.

Interior Minister Mazen Faraya announced the decision on Wednesday, citing the group’s alleged threats to public stability, including plans to target sensitive sites and stockpile weapons in residential areas.

All Brotherhood offices across the kingdom have been shuttered under a judicial order, with security forces deployed to confiscate assets. A special committee will oversee the dissolution process. Faraya accused the group of fostering division and operating covertly to undermine security, stating, “Hidden agendas and divisive rhetoric have no place in Jordan.”

The crackdown follows last week’s arrest of 16 members linked to alleged plots to disrupt stability. The Media Commission also warned of legal action against outlets publishing Brotherhood-related content.

Jordan’s government frames the ban as a necessary step to preserve unity, though critics warn it may escalate tensions. The Brotherhood, long tolerated as a religious charity, now faces total prohibition.
