The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has made history by becoming the first venue in the city to receive gold accreditation from CrescentRating, a prominent halal travel promotion company, South China Morning Post reported.
This certification, awarded for excellence in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) category, reflects the centre’s commitment to accommodating Muslim attendees.
The HKCEC scored highly by offering halal-certified food options at concession stands and providing tailored dishes upon request. Additionally, the venue includes designated prayer spaces equipped with prayer mats, qibla markings, and washing facilities.

This achievement aligns with the Hong Kong government’s initiative to enhance Muslim-friendly business activities and promote tourism from Muslim-majority countries. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has encouraged local businesses to improve dining options for Muslims, recognizing the growing importance of this demographic in the tourism sector.
As Hong Kong strengthens its ties with the Middle East and Southeast Asia, the HKCEC’s certification is expected to boost the city’s appeal to Muslim travelers, paving the way for increased tourism and economic growth.
