Typhoon Bebinca Hits Shanghai, Displacing Over 414,000 Residents
Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai on Monday, disrupting life in the city as state media reported it could be the most powerful storm to hit the financial hub in 75 years, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The typhoon, the 13th of the year, brought winds reaching 42 meters per second, prompting local authorities to issue a Level III emergency response. The storm struck the Lingang area of the Pudong district around 7:30 a.m. local time. In preparation, schools and public transportation were suspended, affecting nearly 25 million residents.
Over 414,000 people were displaced as the city braced for impact. Rescue teams, consisting of hundreds of personnel, are on high alert for potential emergencies as the storm progresses.
