China Opens Pioneering AI-Powered Virtual Hospital Town
China has launched the country’s first AI-driven hospital town, where virtual patients are treated by AI-generated doctors, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The innovative “Agent Hospital” project, led by researchers at Tsinghua University, utilizes large language models to create autonomous AI agents that can fulfill the roles of doctors, nurses, and patients.
This simulated medical environment enables AI doctors to treat 10,000 patients in a matter of days, a task that would take human practitioners 2 years to accomplish.
The AI hospital also provides medical students with an invaluable training platform, allowing them to develop treatment plans without risk to real patients. Researchers emphasize this technology’s potential to model infectious disease scenarios and optimize healthcare delivery across China.
The AI hospital town is slated to become operational by the second half of 2024.
