UN Chief Condemns Haiti Massacre That Killed 42, Including Children
…………..
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned what he described as a “brutal attack” in Haiti that left 42 people dead, including children, and many others injured or missing. He extended condolences to the victims’ families and urged authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
The massacre took place in the town of Laborde, between Arcahaie and Cabaret, where gunmen from the “Vivre Ensemble” gang opened fire on residents, accusing them of collaborating with police. Local officials reported that the assailants also set homes ablaze and committed acts of sexual violence, forcing survivors to flee.
The attack is believed to be retaliation for the killing of the gang’s deputy leader, Vladimir Pierre, during a security operation on September 7. Haiti continues to face escalating gang violence and lawlessness, with armed groups controlling large areas of Port-au-Prince. Efforts by the transitional government and international partners, including a Kenya-led mission, have so far failed to restore stability.
