At least 66 people were killed when a military plane crashed in southern Colombia while taking off from a base near the border with Peru, authorities confirmed.

Rescue teams transported 57 injured individuals to hospitals for treatment, while four people remain missing as search operations continue at the crash site.

The commander of the Colombian Armed Forces said the aircraft was carrying 128 people, including 11 Air Force personnel, 115 army soldiers, and two National Police officers.

Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that the military plane, a C-130 Hercules, crashed during takeoff from Puerto Leguízamo.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident. The government expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged to reveal the circumstances of the crash and take necessary measures.
