A Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Etawah district was allegedly assaulted and threatened after refusing to remove Muslim voters from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, Muslim Mirror reported.

The officer, Ashwini Kumar, a teacher by profession assigned to booth number 323 in Munj, reported that he was intercepted by a car while returning from distributing Election Commission notices. According to Kumar, the occupant of the vehicle, reportedly affiliated with the BJP, demanded the deletion of minority voters from the rolls. Kumar claims he was grabbed by the collar, beaten, and threatened, and that his phone was broken and official documents were taken.

Kumar sustained injuries and filed a complaint at Chaubiya Police Station. Police have reviewed CCTV footage and initiated an investigation, though no arrests have been made so far.

Local BJP leaders denied involvement. A district spokesperson stated, “The party does not encourage any illegal actions. Anyone involved should be punished.”

The State Election Commission acknowledged the incident, emphasizing that attacks on election officials are serious and that electoral processes will continue fairly and promptly. Social activists noted on social media that the assault may indicate broader attempts to intimidate minority voters and booth-level officers.
