Nine people were left with life-threatening injuries after a stabbing attack on a train near Cambridge in eastern England on Saturday, Reuters reported. British Transport Police said two men were arrested after armed officers stopped the Doncaster-to-London King’s Cross service at Huntingdon station.

Counterterrorism officers are assisting with the investigation as authorities work to determine the motive. Chief Superintendent Chris Casey said it was too early to speculate on the cause, noting that inquiries were ongoing. Eyewitnesses told Sky News that one suspect was tasered by police.

The East of England Ambulance Service launched a large emergency response, deploying ambulances, critical care teams, and three air ambulances. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the attack as an “appalling incident,” expressing concern and thanking emergency responders for their swift actions.
