Wayne State University Accused of Silencing Muslim and Arab Voices
————————————
The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has accused Wayne State University of systematically silencing Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian students.

According to a report by The Detroit News, CAIR officials said during a press conference that the university engaged in actions such as dismantling peaceful encampments, obstructing prayer gatherings, and allowing campus police to use aggressive tactics against demonstrators.

Four students have filed a federal lawsuit against the university, claiming their constitutional rights were violated during protests against the war in Gaza.

Activists compared the university’s approach to restrictions seen during the Vietnam War era, warning that the suppression of free expression could turn American campuses into heavily securitized spaces.

Experts have also cautioned that disregarding the rights of Muslim and Arab students risks deepening mistrust between minority communities and university administrations, potentially fueling broader social divisions within U.S. society.
