World’s ‘Oldest Baby’ Born in Ohio from 1994 Frozen Embryo

A baby described as the world’s “oldest,” Thaddeus Daniel Pierce, was born on July 26 in Ohio, United States, from an embryo that had been frozen since 1994, The Guardian reported.
The fertility clinic that facilitated the embryo transfer is led by reproductive endocrinologist John Gordon, who is motivated by his belief that every embryo deserves a chance at life and aims to reduce the number of stored embryos.
The birth highlights the growing practice of embryo adoption and the increasing success rates of IVF technologies. Globally, IVF births are becoming more common, with, for example, 3.1% of births in the UK in 2023 resulting from IVF, up from 1.3% in 2000. In the US, approximately 2% of births are attributed to IVF.
