At least 12 people, including a three-year-old child, were killed when gunmen opened fire inside a hostel in South Africa’s capital, Pretoria, early Saturday, The Guardian reported. Police said a further 13 people were injured in the attack in Saulsville township, located about 18km west of the city.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the assailants shot indiscriminately, killing ten people at the scene. Two victims later died in hospital, and a twelfth succumbed to injuries on Saturday afternoon. The dead also include a 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for three suspects. Forensic teams have been deployed as South Africa continues to confront high murder rates, with more than 60 people killed daily between April and September, according to official data.
