Airstrike eliminates at least 7 al-Shabaab terrorists in Somalia’s Hiraan region

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced on Sunday that an airstrike in the central Hiraan region killed at least seven al-Shabaab militants and destroyed two weapon-filled trucks, Anadolu Agency reported. The strike occurred earlier that day in Bulo Hog village, near Buq-Aqable, a town under al-Shabaab control located about 268 kilometers (166 miles) north of Mogadishu.
According to NISA, the operation was conducted after monitoring the militants and their vehicles, which were reportedly moving from the Shaw area of Hiraan toward Buq-Aqable. The agency stated, “After closely tracking the movement of the vehicles and accompanying fighters, the national intelligence executed the strike upon confirming intelligence about the Khawaarij,” a term it uses for al-Shabaab.
This airstrike follows three separate operations in the Middle Shabelle region two days earlier, which resulted in the deaths of at least 13 al-Shabaab members, including fighters and commanders. Al-Shabaab has been conducting an insurgency against the Somali government for over 16 years, frequently attacking security forces, government officials, and civilians.
