Somalia: 9 al-Shabaab terrorists killed in military operation

The Somali Defense Ministry on Thursday claimed to have killed nine al-Shabaab terrorists in a successful attack on an al-Shabaab base in Taflow village in the southern Somali region of Bay, Anadolu Agency reported.

The operation dismantled the base, neutralized 9 terrorists, and captured a cache of weapons and ammunition, the military statement added.

Somalia has been plagued by insecurity for years, with al-Shabaab and Daesh/ISIS being the main threats.

Al-Shabaab has been fighting the Somali government and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) since 2007. The group has increased attacks since Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an “all-out war” on the group.
