Escalating ISIS Attacks in Niger Kill Over 127 Civilians
—————————
Human rights organizations report that extremist ISIS-linked groups in western Niger have carried out at least five deadly attacks since March, claiming the lives of more than 127 civilians.

According to Reuters via the Shia Waves Agency, the Tillabéri region, bordering Mali and Burkina Faso, has been the epicenter of the assaults. Residents have warned local authorities of escalating threats, but Niger’s army has reportedly not responded effectively.

The country’s military government, which seized power in a 2023 coup, has struggled to restore security in these areas, despite prior improvements before the coup.

Analysts warn that the ongoing attacks could worsen the humanitarian crisis, displace thousands of residents, and deepen instability across the border regions.
