Al-Shabab raids on Kenyan security camp Leaves At least 6 killed

At least six people were killed and four injured in a raid by al-Shabab militants on a security camp in Garissa County, Kenya, early Sunday, Xinhua reported. The attack occurred around 5:30 a.m. at a national police reserve camp in Biyamadhow. Police spokesman Michael Muchiri confirmed that the attackers overran the camp, shooting and stabbing victims before fleeing. In response, security forces have been reinforced in the area to pursue the militants.
The Kenya Police Reserve assists regular police in maintaining law and order, particularly in rural regions. The attack highlights ongoing security challenges along the porous Kenya-Somalia border, where al-Shabab frequently operates. Since Kenya’s military intervention in Somalia in 2011, numerous security personnel and civilians have been killed, and significant property damage has occurred. Despite these challenges, Kenyan authorities report that troop deployments in southern Somalia have helped reduce the smuggling of explosives and contraband across the border.
