Kenya: Death toll from floods rises to 120 after dam bursts
Over 40 people have lost their lives in Kenya after a dam burst, pushing the death toll from devastating floods to more than 120, Al Jazeera reported yesterday.
The deaths were reported on Monday in the Mai Mahiu area after 42 bodies, including 17 minors were recovered as rescue and search operations were going on.
According to local authorities, the rains have filled hydroelectric dams to capacity, threatening a massive downstream overflow.
On Saturday, government figures showed 76 people had been killed and more than 131,000 displaced. The floods have destroyed roads and bridges across the African nation home to over 5 million Muslims.
