DR Congo Rebels Slay At Least 21 During Christmas Week

In a series of brutal attacks, IS-linked ADF rebels killed at least 21 people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during Christmas week, VOA reported yesterday. The assaults occurred near Manguredjipa, a town known for its rich mineral resources.

On December 21, ADF fighters attacked the village of Robinet, killing six individuals. The following day, they struck the neighboring village of Kodjo, resulting in 12 deaths. On Christmas Day, three more victims were reported in the village of Makele, located seven kilometers from Manguredjipa.

The ADF, originally from Uganda and active in the DRC since the mid-1990s, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in 2019. Despite a joint military operation launched by Uganda and the DRC in late 2021, rebel attacks have continued. The region remains volatile, with ongoing conflicts involving various armed groups, including the Rwanda-backed M23 movement.
