Over 100 Missing After Boat Capsizes in Democratic Republic of Congo
More than 100 people are missing following a tragic boat capsizing in the western Democratic Republic of Congo, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when a vessel, carrying approximately 300 passengers, sank in the Lukenie River while en route to Nioki from Oshwe. Local official Jacques Nzenza Mongie reported that the boat overturned after striking submerged tree trunks.
As of late Tuesday, 20 bodies, including four women, have been recovered, while the search for the missing continues. Local media estimates that 43 individuals have been rescued, though the total number of survivors is still being determined.
This incident follows another tragic capsizing in June, which claimed over 80 lives in the Kwa River, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the region.
