At Least 42 Killed in Attack by Suspected Islamist Rebels in Eastern DR Congo
In a deadly attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s North Kivu province, at least 42 people were killed by suspected Islamist rebels on Wednesday, Reuters reported yesterday.
The attack took place in the village of Mayikengo in Lubero territory, the source mentioned.
The attack mirrors a similar assault earlier this week in the same province that left at least 80 people dead.
The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a rebel group affiliated with the Islamic State, have been blamed for the latest violence.
The assailants reportedly asked villagers to gather for a meeting before opening fire with firearms and machetes.
