Ivory Coast Inaugurates Grand Mosque of Akoupé
—————————————
The grand mosque of Akoupé, located in the La Mé region of Ivory Coast, was officially inaugurated on December 12, 2025, during a ceremony attended by senior officials and community leaders.
According to IQNA, the event was held in the presence of Minister of State and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic Patrick Achi, Secretary General of the Prefecture Gohou Brondé, and Member of Parliament Assi Jean-Luc. According to AIP, nearly 600 worshippers and invited guests took part in the ceremony marking the completion of the renovated religious landmark.
Construction of the mosque began in 1990 with the laying of the first stele by the late Zanga Fofana and General Palenfo. However, the project faced repeated interruptions over nearly 35 years due to financial difficulties, socio-political instability, and institutional changes. The project was ultimately completed through the support of Jérôme Patrick Achi, president of the La Mé Regional Council.
Imam Drissa Sanogo expressed gratitude to the Muslim community and contributors, particularly Assi Jean-Luc, for their support. Patrick Achi emphasized the mosque’s role in promoting piety, social cohesion, and community life, and donated two million CFA francs to COSIM during the ceremony.
