African Forensics Embraces AI with Global Backing
————————-
Forensic science across Africa is entering a “new era” with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), though progress remains heavily reliant on international support and resources.
According to Anadolu Agency, leaders from Somalia and The Gambia both see AI as a crucial future “key player” that will make investigations faster and easier. Somalia, which began its forensic journey in 2016, already uses AI for facial recognition and receives significant backing from international partners, including the U.S. (FBI), the African Union, and Interpol. The Gambia, though currently more manual, is actively planning to integrate AI to advance its DNA and ballistic capabilities.
