Bill Gates has committed to donating most of his $200 billion fortune over the next 20 years to improve health and education across Africa, The Guardian reported. Speaking at an event in Addis Ababa, the 69-year-old tech mogul emphasized his goal to “unleash human potential” and ensure every African country is on a path to prosperity.

Gates highlighted priorities such as reducing maternal and child mortality, eradicating infectious diseases, and improving nutrition. He also praised artificial intelligence as a transformative tool for health, education, and agriculture.

Criticizing recent U.S. federal cuts to foreign aid programs, Gates warned that abrupt funding reductions have disrupted medical trials and left vital medicines unused, calling these cuts a “huge mistake.” He specifically condemned budget cuts by the Trump administration’s “department of government efficiency,” led briefly by Elon Musk.

The Gates Foundation announced plans to focus on ending preventable deaths, combating infectious diseases, and alleviating poverty, with intentions to conclude its operations after 20 years.
