United Nations expresses its concern as the Saudi coalition continues violating the Hodeidah agreement

“These air strikes hinder the peace process and threaten the implementation of the Hodeidah agreement,” Lieutenant General Abhijit Guha, head of the United Nations Mission and head of the Redeployment Coordination Committee, said in a statement.

The Saudi Aggression Coalition has announced the start of attacks in al-Salif against installations that it says pose a threat to shipping lines in the Bab al-Mandab strait and the southern Red Sea.

In the statement, Lt. General Guha noted that the level of general violence in Hodeidah has decreased over the past months, but the situation in the province remains volatile.

He urged the parties to continue to work jointly through the Redeployment Coordination Committee, the truce mechanism and the strengthening of the ceasefire, in order to ensure full respect for the ceasefire and continued calm on the ground.

The Al-Hudaydah Agreement provides for a ceasefire in the governorate, the port of Al-Hodeidah, al-Salif, and Ras Issa, and calls for the removal of all military appearances in the city.

The breach of the agreement comes a day after Special Envoy Martin Griffiths visited Yemen to Marib, where he renewed the call by the parties to freeze military activities immediately and without conditions.

He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a cessation of what he described as political adventures, and the pursuit of regional gains that will not be beneficial, saying, “This matter will drag Yemen into many years of conflict.”
