On Wednesday, the Uzbek police arrested 21 people suspected of links to ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
Reuters news agency quoted the Uzbek police as saying in a statement, that the men were being held under the ideological influence of another Uzbek man who was a member of the so-called “Tawhid and Jihad” brigade group, which consists mostly of Central Asia.
The statement added that the elements were planning to finance the group and join it.
It is noteworthy that thousands of people from the formerly Muslim-majority Soviet region joined various terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq when ISIS temporarily seized part of Iraq and Syria.
