As many as 400 Taliban fighters have surrendered to Afghan security forces in the central and western parts of the country, the country’s defense ministry said.
The Subhe Kabul daily quoted the ministry as saying that 343 members of the Taliban in the central province of Ghor and 57 others in the western province of Herat have turned themselves in.
Among the surrendered militants were three Taliban divisional commanders, Mullah Abdul Nasir, Mullah Salahuddin and Abdul Had, it added.
The latest surrendering came amid military pressure as Afghan security forces continue to press militants in restive districts in the western and central regions.
The Taliban have not commented on the report yet.
