Yemen: Patients allowed traveling from Sanaa International Airport
The Saudi coalition announced the release of 200 Yemeni prisoners and allowed patients to travel from Sanaa, according to a statement.
The Saudi coalition announced the release of 200 Yemeni prisoners and allowed patients to travel from Sanaa, according to a statement.
The decision came about two months after Yemeni attacks on Saudi Arabia ceased at the initiative of the head of the Supreme Political Council in Yemen and shortly after a Saudi official announced that the kingdom had opened a “channel of communication” with Ansar Allah to end the war on Yemen, while Sanaa did not comment on the news.
Last Friday, the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, said that the aerial bombardment in Yemen has decreased over the past two weeks, considering that it could pave the way for a general ceasefire in the country.
“The leadership of the coalition forces decided on their own initiative to release 200 prisoners,” coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said in a statement.
He also decided to “fly flights in cooperation with the World Health Organization to transport patients from the capital Sanaa to countries where they can receive appropriate treatment for their cases.”
Sanaa airport has been closed since 2016 for flights, and the coalition, which controls the movement of the airport, only allows UN aircraft and humanitarian organizations to use it.
