Taliban militants have released 40 security personnel who were prisoners in Guzjan province in northern Afghanistan, provincial spokesman Abdulhadi Jamal said Monday.
Jamal said a group of 40 security personnel, mostly policemen, had been released by the Taliban and arrived in the city of Shebergan, capital of Guzjan province, on Sunday afternoon.
This is the second batch of security forces released by the Taliban in Guzjan over the past week.
The Taliban, who refer to themselves as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, are a Sunni Islamic fundamentalist political movement and military organization in Afghanistan currently waging war within that country.
