According to khabartaze website, four police forces and four members of the Afghan army were killed in the attack in the district of Golran.
Also, three individuals were wounded and three others were captured by the Taliban.
Abdol Ghani Nouri, the governor of Golran, said clashes with Taliban members started Tuesday night and continued into the early hours of Wednesday.
Abdol Ahad Valizadeh, spokesman for Herat Police, said heavy casualties were inflicted on the Taliban in the clashes.
According to some sources, a police station in Golran has fallen to the Taliban in the attack.
