A man has been arrested for calling in a false bomb threat at a Benton Township mosque.

Early Friday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the Napier Avenue mosque and made contact with several worshipers, who were unaware of the bomb threat.

The building was evacuated and searched, but no bomb was found. The mosque was deemed safe, and worshipers were allowed to return.

A mosque leader told police about a potential suspect who had recently visited. That man was located and questioned, and police say he admitted to making the false bomb threat. His cell phone number matched the phone number that had called in the threat.

The suspect has only been identified as a 38-year-old man from New Buffalo. He has been lodged at the Berrien County Jail.
