The wing chaplain hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of an Islamic mosque on Goodfellow Air Force Base on June 23.
This will be the first mosque on Goodfellow, and the only one in the San Angelo area. Currently the nearest mosque is in San Antonio. The Air Force also has mosques at Lackland Air Force Base and the Air Force Academy.
Mosques serve as a place of worship and a location for various community functions such as Quranic studies and weekly community gatherings. The opening of the mosque on Goodfellow is a prime example of the Air Force’s determination to provide religious freedom and accommodations to all Airmen.
