The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) recorded 22 arbitrary arrests, including five children between December 12-18, adding that none of the arrested were released.

The center said on its twitter account that eight of the citizens were presented to the Bahraini courts last week over five politically motivated cases and that two of these cases are related to freedom of opinion and expression, Bahrain Mirror reported.

BCHR also noted that 59 peaceful demonstrations were staged in 26 areas across the country and that the authorities cracked down on four of them, using tear gas canisters.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations on the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifah family to relinquish power.
