Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (AFIMN), has staged a peaceful rally in Kaduna
Following a nationwide program, the Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (AFIMN), has staged a peaceful rally in Kaduna calling for the release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.
Addressing newsmen at the rally, protesters described the continued arrest of the leader of the movement as illegal and a violation of his fundamental human rights. The rally took place at the Leventis Roundabout in Kaduna metropolis where students from various institutions, who are also members of the movement raised posters with pictures of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and the inscription “Free Zakzaky”.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Army launched an attack on the Islamic movement in Zaria on 12th to 14th of December last year in which several members of the movement were killed and several others abducted by the Army.
The Human Rights Watch, HRW said hundreds members of the movement were killed in the massacre which it described as excessive use of strength by the military.
The leader of the Movement Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, who was shot severally during the attack, was also abducted and detained by the military and his house and Islamic centers razed to the ground.
