Muslim community in New Zealand changing public perceptions
work in an effort to overcome negative perceptions about Islam
An Auckland Muslim community is stepping up its charity work in an effort to overcome negative perceptions about Islam.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community hopes to raise thousands for the Blind Foundation in Walk for Humanity today.
Spokesman Sabhan Shah said the world often see Muslims and Islam being portrayed in the news for all the wrong reasons.
He said in reality Islam teaches that serving others is a means to get closer to God and this motivation underpins all the charity work they engage in.
The community will also be taking up several activities including feeding those in need and taking in refugees throughout the year.
